Interior designer, Teresa Sicks, owner of Aberdeen Interiors was given the challenge of updating an 18-year-old home located in the Riss Lake Subdivision, Kansas City, Missouri. Sicks, a Kansas City native with 5+ years of experience in interior design, stepped into this remodel project with an eye on bringing this home back to beautiful.

In planning and making recommendations for this kitchen remodel Sicks says, “The smartest choice in a kitchen remodel is simple, clean lines with interesting colors and textures. Let your cabinets steal the show. Even though cabinetry and custom millwork are one of the largest investments in a kitchen renovation project, paint upgrades don’t have to be. Think about going up and adding to existing kitchen cabinets. It’s a fresh, contemporary look  on modern kitchen design that gives so much personality to the space, especially when it can be seen through other rooms within the house,” she says. “No one ever complains that their kitchen is too white and clean! ”

Semi-custom cabinetry was made to complement the Mont Blanc marble used for the countertops. The large island was custom made.  Cool gray cabinetry is topped with a Nero Orion Brushed granite to give the kitchen contrast and better utilize the space. Dark hardwood floors deliver visual beauty to the overall kitchen and continue into the other rooms for continuity.

Details such as a pencil trim used in the marble tile backsplash add unique texture to walls and highlight the custom marble countertops used on the perimeter of the kitchen.
