Installation day is exciting, but it goes smoother when a few things are ready ahead of time. Most issues we see are small and completely avoidable.
This is a simple prep list based on real installs at Canaan Stone Works.
Before the Crew Arrives
- Clear everything off existing countertops
This includes appliances, décor, and anything stored underneath overhangs. - Empty the cabinets below
Installers may need access from above or below during placement. - Make sure sinks and cooktops are disconnected
Plumbing and appliances should already be handled unless otherwise arranged. - Create a clear path to the kitchen
Stone is heavy and fragile. Clear hallways, entryways, and doorways.
During Installation
- Keep pets and kids out of the work area
This keeps everyone safe and allows installers to focus. - Expect noise and movement
Cutting, fitting, and leveling are part of the process. - Ask questions if something looks unfamiliar
Good installers are happy to explain what they are doing.
After Installation
- Wait before reconnecting plumbing
Follow the recommended cure time before using sinks. - Avoid placing weight or appliances immediately
Give everything time to settle properly. - Ask about care instructions
Different materials have different needs from day one.
One Final Tip
The smoother the prep, the smoother the install. A little planning beforehand often turns installation day into a stress free experience rather than a hectic one.
