Johnson County residents have a new, mouth-watering barbecue place to delight their senses and tickle their taste buds. Chef, and Pitmaster, Rob Magee, at Q39, places all of his energy and passion into making KC’s best barbecue and other amazing foods from scratch.
Q39 is the brainchild of Magee and his wife, Kelly. Just two years after opening on 39th Street’s restaurant row, Q39 , has a second location in the former Hayward’s Pit Bar-B-Que space at 11051 Antioch Rd.
After a major interior and exterior renovation, including new landscaping and a new parking lot, Rob Magee and his team are now ready to serve Johnson County, expertly and efficiently in this friendly urban rustic setting.
Arizona-based Realm Architecture + Design designed the original Q39 location and the new 7,100-square-foot restaurant in Johnson County, with a similar urban-rustic decor. Complete Construction Services , (CCS), of Kansas City was selected to provide construction management of the massive remodel. The team at Canaan Stone Works was contracted to custom fabricate and install quartz countertops for the massive bar, serving stations, bathroom vanities, and the countertops in the carry-out area, Q2GO.
The dining room seats more than 200 people. There is also a full-service patio seating up to 104 people on the north side, and a private dining space for up to 25 people. The full-service bar seats up to 20.
In keeping with the look and feel of the original location, Magee and his wife Kelly, have carried over the rustic urban interior with large windows that bring in plenty of light. There is also a huge, full- service bar offering beer, wine and a list of more than two dozen seasonal hand-crafted cocktails. A special To-Go entrance for pickup orders called Q2GO is located next to the frond door for easy access.
One of the most unique changes to the Q39 Overland Park location is the state-of-the-art smoker that can hold 1,400 pounds of meat, compared to the 500-pound capacity of the original location. This will allow them to cater large-scale parties for up to 3,000 people in addition to supplying the restaurant each day. “We built a butcher room where guests can watch the Q39 team preparing the meat for the grill or smoker through a large glass window while waiting to be seated.” Magee says. “We also have a much larger dining room with comfortable outdoor patio.
With the surrounding offices, hotels and residential area, as well as easy access off Interstate 435, Magee said he “couldn’t ask for a better demographic.”
Q39 South is open Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 10 pm and Sunday from 11 am to 9 pm.
